This facility is a state of the art training and simulation platform representing numerous real time situations resulting in training of personal for live exposure. The project, located on the Potomac River, is designed to simulate the bridge of a ship and houses the equipment found on modern ships today. Placement and design of the ship-like building further gives the illusion of real situations. The communications tower is fully functional and is relocated from a ship to further enhance real-time situations. The building is approximately 10,000 square feet and cost 2.6 million dollars (for construction only). Furthermore, to enhance the project delivery this was a fast track design-build project with the design and construction working together to deliver the end result. This building was designed utilizing the NAVFAC Whole Building Design Guide which provides an holistic approach to design and construction using sustainable building techniques. It is located at Patuxent Naval Air Station, Patuxent, Maryland.
