experience - leed & sustainable design
Gipe Associates, Inc. is familiar with and has experience with design and construction using environmentally sound techniques in order to produce “green building design.” Although sustainable design can be unique to each project, from a mechanical/electrical standpoint, we generally summarize it as follows:

  • Water Efficiency
  • Energy and Atmosphere criteria
  • Indoor Environmental Quality criteria
  • U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Rating System
  • ASHRAE/IESNA Standard 90.1-1999
  • ASHRAE Standard 55-1992
  • ASHRAE 129-1997

Design includes:

  • Individual Room Control
  • 100 percent outdoor air purge cycle
  • Geothermal heat pumps (renewable energy source) using environmentally friendly refrigerant (CFC reduction)
  • Heat recovery
  • Non/low emitting materials/VOC’s in mastics, insulation etc
  • Commissioning
  • Humidity and temperature control for each space
  • Optimize energy performance using variable speed drives for pumps and fans, night time pre-cooling etc
  • Carbon dioxide monitoring and control (demand controlled ventilation)
  • IAQ plan before occupancy to flush out building
  • Water reduction by using waterless urinals, low/high flush valves, sensor operated faucets, low flow aerators
  • Measurement and verification through the use of the building ATC/EMS system
  • IAQ by using dedicated outdoor air systems
  • Point of use domestic hot water heaters
