Gipe Associates, Inc. is made up of nearly 50 professional, technical and administrative
staff. We have 9 professional engineers and 9 LEED APs.
Gipe Associates, Inc. employs 3 construction administration
specialists, who along with our CxA also provide commissioning
services. We have certified plumbing and lighting specialists,
as well as design/build, geothermal heat exchange and solar
power specialists on-staff. Our leadership consists of the following:
GARY N. WEEDON, PE
President
Gary was born and raised in the Baltimore area. He attended the Mechanics Institute and joined the predecessor of Gipe Associates, Inc. - Albert B. Gipe & Associates in 1969 as a design engineer. Gary was made a Project Manager in 1977, VP and board member in 1984 and Executive VP in 1992. He has been President of the firm since 1998. As such, he is responsible for management, marketing and financial aspects of the company; and is responsible for project assignment.
Gary has been a registered professional engineer since 1988 and is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), the Engineering Society of Baltimore, Building Congress & Exchange, the American Consulting Engineering Companies of Maryland (ACEC-MD), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the Maryland Association of Engineers (MAE) and the International District Energy Association (IDEA). Gary is an affiliate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and a Past Executive Committee Director of the ACEC-MD.
Gary currently resides in Harford County and has a daughter and
two sons.
MICHAEL J. PURTELL, PE, CPD, LEED AP, CxA
Senior Vice President
Mike was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1986 he graduated from the Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a BSME in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, Mike moved to Maryland and began working for a Baltimore area consulting engineering firm. In June 1993 Mike joined Gipe Associates as a Project Manager. Today, he is an officer and a board member of the company; and manages a project group in the Baltimore Office.
Mike is responsible for surveys, studies, and preparation of specifications, production of designs, quality reviews and construction administration. He has been involved in projects requiring HVAC, plumbing, geothermal, fire protection, industrial ventilation, thermal storage, fuel oil process piping, and energy management systems for industrial, residential, commercial, government, educational, and institutional facilities.
Mike has acquired his Professional Engineering license in 11 jurisdictions including the states of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, New York, Connecticut, Kentucky, West Virginia, South Carolina and the District of Columbia. Mike is a Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD), certified by ACG as a Commissioning Agent (CxA), and certified by the US Green Building Council as a LEED AP. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), American Society or Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Society of American Military Engineers (SAME), American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), and affiliate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
Mike has three children and presently lives in Harford County.
JEFFREY W. ALBAN, LEED AP
Senior Vice President
Born and raised in the Baltimore area, Jeff graduated from The Pennsylvania State University with an AS in Engineering & Technology in 1983. Upon his graduation, he joined Gipe Associates, Inc. as a mechanical designer and has since moved up through the ranks to his current position of Sr. VP. Jeff is an officer and Board member of the firm, and manages a project group in the Baltimore office.
His 27 years of experience includes emphasis on HVAC, plumbing, geothermal, fire protection, and energy management systems for a variety of facilities. Jeff is responsible for surveys, studies, and preparation of specifications, production of designs, quality reviews and construction administration. He has been a leader in the promotion and design of geothermal systems and has extensive experience on educational and community based projects.
Jeff is a LEED accredited professional certified by the US Green Building Council. He is a member of the American Society of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), and the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO).
Jeff presently resides in Northern Baltimore County. He and his wife, Marsha, have three children.
DAVID R. HOFFMAN, PE, CPD, LEED AP
Senior Vice President
Dave was born in Cambridge, Maryland and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He graduated from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 1988 when he received his Bachelor in Science & Engineering (BSE). Dave began working for Gipe Associates in June 1988 as a Mechanical Design Engineer, and today, he is an officer and a board member of the company, and manages the Easton Office.
Dave is responsible for surveys, studies, and preparation of specifications, production of designs, quality reviews and construction administration for various projects for the firm. He has been involved in projects requiring HVAC, plumbing, geothermal, fire protection, industrial ventilation, thermal storage, fuel oil process piping, and energy management systems for industrial, commercial, and institutional facilities.
Dave has acquired his Professional Engineering license in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, Georgia, and New Jersey. He is Certified in Plumbing Design and Certified by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. He is a member of the Construction Specification Institute (CSI), the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE), the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Dave presently lives in Dorchester County. He and his wife, Cassie,
have two daughters.
