Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems harness the energy of the sun and convert solar radiation into direct current electricity, which can be converted into alternating current electricity to serve a home or commercial building's electrical system. The key components of a PV system are PV modules, a mounting system, and one or more inverters. When a PV system is connected to a building's AC electrical distribution system, it is called a "utility-interactive" or "grid-tied" system. When a PV system is not connected to a utility grid, the energy produced by the same can be stored in batteries. Gipe Associates has been a leader in the design and inspection of PV systems.
